Bang Kwaek Floating Market
Samutsongkram, the origin of Mae Klong River and charming fireflies, is only an hour’s drive from Bangkok.
Bang Kwaek floating market still preserves the old way of living with many wooden houses built along the river. The market is also the longest in Samutsongkram. It is suggested to come here in the early morning for it has more food and merchandise than in the afternoon. Do not forget to try the crab noodle and Pad Thai, popular dishes at this market.
The market is located at Amphur Bangkontee, Samutsongkram and is open on Saturdays, Sundays and on national holidays from 8am-5pm.
Visitors can also cruise along the floating market to see many kinds of trees. One example to be seen is carunda used to treat diabetes, cancer, hypertension, kidney and many other diseases. Visitors should also stop and take pictures at Nativity of Our Lady Cathedral, the hundred-year-old cathedral.
