Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai, known as Thailand’s “second city” is often rated as one of the world’s most livable cities.  After the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, many visitors immediately fall in love with Chiang Mai and its laid back lifestyle.

In fact, many Westerners never leave, making it home to one of Southeast Asia’s largest expat populations, many of whom are retired and enjoying the comforts and daily delights of life in northern Thailand.

Only a one-hour flight from Bangkok, Chiang Mai has something for everyone, including dozens of fascinating activities for seniors – both physical and intellectual.  Historical sites abound, and the range of cuisine available is truly outstanding.

Other intriguing options include learning about, or even visiting, one of Thailand’s distinct ethnic groups, or “mountain peoples”.  The Night Bazaar is another must-see.  And in addition to an extensive world-class zoo, Chiang Mai has a night safari as well as Southeast Asia’s largest aquarium.
