One of Thailand’s most popular island paradises, Ko Pha Ngan is something of a legend among backpackers and budgeteers. Phuket is the choice for the older, yachting crowd, Ko Pha Ngan is for their children, who’ve perhaps fled Phuket, stopped by Ko Samui for a night or two, then carried on to the next island, Ko Pha Ngan, for some seriously laid back beach action interspersed with some serious partying.
The island’s claim to fame, besides all the amazing natural sites, beaches, snorkeling, scuba diving, archery, hiking, yoga, meditation, saunas, kayaking, speed boat excursions, and natural parks… well, besides all that, it’s the monthly Full Moon Parties on Haad Rin.If you don’t happen to be there the night of the full moon, don’t despair; there are bi-monthly Half Moon Parties, monthly Black Moon Parties, and Jungle Parties, not to mention the Shiva Moon Parties.
It’s a big island, however, and if lying in a hammock drinking coconut milk and studying the waves is more your thing, there are plenty of places to do just that.
