Beer bars are part and parcel of the backpacker circuit.And Thailand has long been tops on the hippie trail, from laid back and cultural Chiang Mai, to swinging Pattaya and Bangkok, to the sunny, sandy, swing of the beaches in the south.And peppered throughout these hotspots are beer bars, clubs, and watering holes that are sometimes more literal than figurative.

Even Bangkok has a famous beer bar with no front door or walls, where you might need to move your stool to let a car or elephant pass by; let’s just say cheap charlies will feel right at home where a beer cost a buck and the ice is chucked in for a smile.  Budget travelers will be grinning when they start finding their way around these places – before they lose their legs, that is.
