Kiteboarding in Pran Buri: An excitement on tranquil sea
The stretch of the Gulf of Thailand's coastline in Pran Buri district of Prachuap Khiri Khan is becoming more famous not only for weekend tourists but also for kiteboarders. Its strong northeastern winds from November to April makes the 16km long beach of Pran Buri the favorite destination for the sport.
Kiteboarding or kitesurfing combines some best adventure water sports like surfing, wakeboarding, and waterskiing together. To play kiteboard, an athlete needs to ride a surfboard harnessed to a large kite.
Essential gears are a kiteboarding kite, a bar, a kiteboard, and a waist harness. T excellent quality equipment can be rather pricey for beginners who are not yet sure to take the sport seriously. An alternative is to join kiteboarding classes organized by kiteboarding service operators including Kiteboarding Asia and Airstylers Kite School.
A two-hour introductory course will give you a glimpse on how to control a kitesurfing kite while riding a kiteboard at a cost of 4,000 baht. A class for beginners will take 3 days, and the fee is 11,000 baht. If you like to release adrenaline, kiteboarding is really for you.
How to get there: Pran Buri is about three-hour drive from Bangkok. Ride on Highway 35 and connect to Highway 4 in Phetchaburi until reaching to Pran Buri. An alternative is to take a public van from either Mochit Van Terminal or Ekamai Bus Terminal.
