Day 1: Where to go in Ban Rai?

Let's start at Ban Rai District, which is located at the border between Uthai Thani and Suphan Buri Provinces. The atmosphere here retains its natural charm and lovely community lifestyle, always ready to welcome visitors with the characteristic smiles of the Land of Smiles. The first place on this trip is Wat Tham Khao Wong, a temple nestled amidst nature and surrounded by mountains. It stands out with a four-story Thai-style wooden building made of teak and Makha wood, featuring a long wooden bridge crossing a large pond in front. Additionally, there is Phra Phuttha Uthai Thammapinit, a reclining Buddha in the posture of subduing Asurinda Rahu, beautifully crafted in the contemporary Sukhothai style, where we can pay our respects and seek blessings.

Along the way, make sure to stop by and admire the ‘Giant Tree’ that stands tall amidst the palm forest, boasting an age of over 400 years. As you walk towards the tree, you'll pass through a small community market offering local food and products for you to enjoy. This market is only open on weekends.

"Next, continue shopping at 'Sao Hai Market,' which is beautifully decorated with a cozy atmosphere. It's a small market offering a variety of fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs, food, drinks, and handmade goods for you to browse and buy as souvenirs. Additionally, there's music playing to create a pleasant shopping environment. We spent hours leisurely strolling around the market.

Stop by to pay respects to 'Luang Pho To' at Wat Pha Thang, a large Buddha statue in the posture of granting blessings, standing 52 meters tall, for good fortune. Inside the building beneath the statue's base, there are also images of Somdet Phra Phuttha Chan (To), Luang Pu Thuat, and Luang Pu Suk for Buddhists to venerate.

End the evening with a visit to 'Pang Sawan Weir', one of the must-visit tourist attractions in Uthai Thani Province. This overflow weir creates a beautiful water curtain. When we visited, there weren't many tourists, so there was no need to wait long to take photos. The best time to visit is during the rainy season or a few days after heavy rain when the water curtain is at its most beautiful.

Day 2: Explore ancient forests, taste renowned cuisine, and pay respects to the Buddha to enhance your good fortune.

Wake up in the morning and take a deep breath of fresh air, immersing yourself in the surrounding nature. Then, head to Hup Pa Tat, located within the Tham Prathun Non-hunting Area. This place is a highlight of visiting Uthai Thani Province, named after the discovery of a large number of Tat trees, an ancient plant species related to palms. You can explore inside on your own; you can borrow a flashlight at the fee collection point or use your phone's flash to walk through the dark cave for about 50 meters. The path includes stairs and flat terrain, with a round-trip distance of about 700 meters. Enjoying the natural scenery isn't too exhausting. When you reach the cave, you'll find a popular photo spot where people queue up to take memorable photos.

When we visited, it was quite lucky to encounter the ‘pink dragon millipede’ a rare species found only here in the world. These little creatures only appear during the late rainy season and early winter, from May to November, depending on the forest's humidity.

In the afternoon, visit Wat Uposatha Ram, located by the Sakae Krang River. This ancient temple has been a part of Uthai Thani since the early Rattanakosin period and was once a site for King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) during his northern provincial tour in 1906. Admire the beauty of the murals inside the temple, the octagonal mandapa, the three-period pagoda, and the floating chapel.
